Charity Catwalk

I haven't blogged for a few months now, I am taking a break from planning events for a short while but I will be back with ideas and organising shortly.

I remembered I hadn't actually blogged about the Charity Catwalk show that I held at the end of July and so here is a glimpse into how the day went...

The event was held at Ridgmont House, stunning venue and great staff, I actually got married here so I was very excited about returning for this wonderful charity event.

We held the event to raise money for UNICEF, on the day there were stalls selling lots of lovely goodies:

We also had an express make over booth by the brilliant Bethany Jane Davies.

The catwalk was the main event of the day and we featured a variety of vintage, vintage inspired and glamorous outfits from Dodie Designer Dressmaker, Pink Flamingo Boutique, Violet Flamingo, Cyanide Kiss and The Dressing Room Boutique - all the hair and make up was done by the brilliant Stephanie Bentham and her amazing friends and photography was provided by the wonderful Nomnom Photography.

The gorgeous models on the day were Coco Fierce, Hellkat, Ria Holland and Cat Sleigh as well as lot's more stunning ladies! Thank you to each and everyone of them as they all made the show what it was!

After the catwalk we sat down for afternoon tea, and I must say this was the best afternoon tea I have ever had, the warm homemade scones were divine - we then drew the raffle which included Next vouchers, Clarks vouchers, Photo shoot donated by Emziliscious, yummy cupcakes donated by Little Poppet Cupcakes and Barnett Bakery and a voucher donated by Roberts-Steele Hairdressing - we then announched the top bidder for the Bolton Arena 12 month gym membership and a very glamorous Coco Fierce picked and announced the winner of the best dressed competition.

Before I finish, I would like to say a massive thank you and let my appreciation be known for a beautiful lady, very talented and incredibly kind Bexi Owen who had volunteered to sing at the event, however on the day she had a sore throat and could barely talk never mind sing - she was unfortunately was unable to sing on the day but she still travelled all the way to Horwich to show her support and let us use her microphone to announce the catwalk shows. I totally did not expect her to come along if she was unwell and I was so appreciative of her kindness to come and show her support.

All in all the day was great fun and a great success as we raised £590 for UNICEF and had an overwhelming amount of shoes donated to Shoebiz - so a huge thank you to every single person that took part, bought tickets and helped advertise the event, we couldn't have done it without you.

Please take a moment to pop over to my Facebook page and look at the fabulous photographs from the day!

Thank you for reading,

Rebecca

Charity Catwalk Event welcomes The Dressing Room Boutique

I'm now introducing the third fantastic business that's involved in the Charity Catwalk Event - The Dressing Room Boutique!

Based in Wigan town centre they specialise in making beautiful bespoke garments of all styles. I love how glamorous their clothes are and many are inspired by 1950's styles, with the big skirts and bright fabrics.

They have a beautiful collection of gowns ideal for any prom, wedding or special occasion - in fact I first came across them when my friend had a dress made to measure from them for my 1950's style wedding.

A selection of what they can offer will be shown on the catwalk but do remember they offer a made to measure service, and so you can take bits from each outfit to produce a dress perfect for you!

Check them out on their website or Facebook Page and don't forget to buy your catwalk tickets! (available via my website)

Charity Catwalk Event welcomes Cyanide Kiss

Hello! I hope everyone is loving this gorgeous weather, I definitely am!

I'm taking time out from the sunshine to announce the next fantastic business involved in our Charity Catwalk Event, which is Cyanide Kiss.

Here is abit about them:

'The Cyanide Kiss aesthetic is outrageously sweet, and girlie to the extreme, a nod to both the Lolita girls from Harajuku as well as the Rockabilly girls from Manchester, merging two styles from opposite sides of the globe.

Providing unique styles that you won’t see anywhere else. Inspired by the 40’s and 50’s and a love of vintage clothing and infused with a twist of Japanese street styles to create a unique style.

We were always drawn to unique styles, something a bit different from the mainstream, and wanted to reflect this in the clothes we make! We want to make quirky clothing for you for that special occasion, whether you’re looking for something for a prom, or bridesmaids dresses, we’re happy to work with you to provide something that’s perfect for your occasion.

All dresses are designed and made by the designer in her hometown of Manchester and can be made to order in custom sizes.'

Below are examples of some Cyanide Kiss dresses, they are just so cute and the shorter lengths provide a more modern take on the 1950's dresses.

I hope you like the dresses that you see and if you wish to order a bespoke dress you can contact them via Facebook or you can order your dress at the Catwalk event.

Charity Catwalk Event welcomes Juub Juub

Well, after months of planning, researching, contacting people and advertising to local businesses I can begin to introduce to you all the wonderful people that will be involved in the Charity Catwalk Show on 29th July 2012.

I am starting off by introducing one of the amazing vintage clothing companies that will be sharing their clothes with you in the show...and first up is Juub Juub!

Lauren contacted me direct after seeing details of the event online and was very interested in taking part. I love her story, her clothes and her business name and I am so happy to have her in our show, I just know you are going to love her too!

So here is a little bit abut Jubb Juub written by Lauren herself.

Juub Juub was founded by Lauren, an Englishwoman living in Bangkok, Thailand, who fell totally in love with the vintage markets and shops in this crazy city!  There are just so many beautiful and unusual vintage garments.  She collects pre-loved dresses from all over the world.  Sometimes it's very hard to part with these beautiful items, as she wants to keep them all!!  At the moment items are bought mainly from Thailand, however a lot of the items actually find their way here from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong.

Each item is individually hand picked, and if necessary laundered and professionally repaired.  Juub Juub specialises in dresses: everything ranging from formal and evening wear, cocktail dresses, day dresses, sun dresses, and house dresses.   We also sometimes find other little beauties, such as jump suits shorts, shirts, skirts and jackets, belts, jewelry and other accessories.

Juub Juub's garments are good quality and unique, with Asian designers often putting a quirky slant on their designs.  So if you like to be an individual, stand out from the crowd, or to own beautiful one-off, one-of-a-kind clothing... then Juub Juub is the place for you.

Did you know...?

'Juub juub' (จูบจูบ) means "kiss kiss" in Thai.  It is a phrase commonly used between lovers, friends and close family members to express affection.  For example, at the end of a text message, letter or email in England we often write "xx" to give the reader a couple of little kisses.   However, in Thailand friends and lovers will often say "juub juub" to be cute or charming when they say hello or goodbye to their loved ones!

So, how excited are you to see the clothing and accessories that Juub Juub has to offer! I know I certainly am, and having been to Thailand myself and experienced the markets I can just picture the stunning garments that she has to show us.

Lauren has shared a few photographs with me as a sneak peek:

Juub Juub is just one of the fabulous businesses that we have involved in the Catwalk Show, and I will be blogging about each separately over the next few weeks. We have a variety of Vintage and vintage inspired and some with a modern twist - so we really have something on show for everyone and I'm sure the event will be worth every penny!

Tickets are only £20.00 and that includes a £5 donation to UNICEF as well afternoon tea (a selection of sandwiches, cakes and tea), live entertainment, express make over opportunity and some gorgeous stalls selling hand made products.

Tickets available via my website www.polkadotsandpearls.co.uk and click on upcoming events.

Charity Catwalk Show - 29th July 2012

This charity catwalk event is planned for Sunday 29th July 2012 and is being held at Ridgmont House, Horwich, Bolton. I am looking for businesses that would like to showcase their clothes in the catwalk.

The theme of the day is 1950's, so we want to stick to this style as much as possible and include a mixture of actual vintage/retro clothes and items that are inspired by the era.

It is £10 to showcase your clothes in the catwalk, and you can enter upto 10 outfits. The £10 goes towards insurance and advertising the event.

We will provide the models and we have lots of gorgeous ladies lined up, including Coco Fierce, the stunning Pin Up Model!

Tickets are being sold at £20.00 for an adult ticket and for this guests get to watch the show, view the stalls and enjoy afternoon tea and there will be live
music from Jazz, Blues and Swing singer, Bexi Owen. £5 from each adult ticket goes to UNICEF. There are 100 tickets to be sold and we will also be holding a charity raffle, so we hope to raise a good amount of money for UNICEF.

To purchase a ticket, please click here.

If you would like to enter your business into the show, or if you would like a stall, please email me.

Lots of love,

Rebecca

My day at Alt. Studio's, Manchester

On Good Friday just gone, my sister in law and I attended a photo shoot at the new and very exciting Alt Studio's in Manchester, a number of people that I know had already attended for a shoot and I loved the photo's that they came away with.

As you may or may not know I offer retro and vintage style photo shoots as part of my extra services and so I wanted to attend a shoot at the studio's to experience it myself and with a view to possibly working with, and recommending Simon in the future.

Located in the well known Northern Quarter in Manchester the studio is situated in the perfect place, as the area is popular with all creative industries, in particular alternative fashion - a number of these businesses being with Afflecks.

Our day started off when we met Simon in the studio, along with the hair and make up artist, we then had a chat about what era and styles we would like, showed off our outfits and then we got started on the hair and make up.

I was up first and I chose to go 1950's style (No surprise there, it's quite obvious that's my favourite era), victory rolls, bright lips and simple eye make up. The outfits I took weren't really 1950's style as such, they were just cute dresses that I owned that had that retro look.

I took along my Brownie camera as a prop for in the shoots - I'm so glad I did, and you'll see why when you see the photo's! As it was a rainy day I also took along my 'Love umbrellas' love heart brolly, not even thinking that I could potentially use that as a prop until mid shoot when I had the brain wave!

The shoot was so much fun, Simon made me feel extremely comfortable, he was a great laugh and incredibly talented at what he does.

Next up was my sister in law, who I had invited along to the shoot - she has a stunning look and really suits the vintage style that she chose. She enjoyed the day just as much as I did and we are both so thrilled with the photographs. I am glad that I went along and experienced Alt Studio's and now I am able to recommend Simon to friends, family and all the visitors to my website.

I am please to announce that we will now be working with Alt Studio's as part of our Photo shoot services, and so if you wish to book an alternative and retro style shoot just like the photo's you are about the see you can contact me via my website www.polkadotsandpearls.co.uk or by email.

There is an introductory offer on at the moment meaning that the shoot and make over itself is free, and all images and packages are half price - starting from just £30.00!

So now you've read all about it, here are the photographs from our shoot:

Me with my very cute Love Umbrella's brolly

Me with the Brownie camera! Now can you see why I was glad that I took it along with me? Amazing photograph!

Me playing Marilyn Monroe. Well a girl can dream!

My gorgeous sister in law!

Very cute and flirty pose here from Hannah!

Looking oh so glamourous! Doesn't she look like a movie star?

I love this one of Hannah! Very fun and retro!

Once we'd both had our seperate shoots, we did a few shots together. These were great fun to do and don't they work so well. The way Simon has presented them is very cool too!

And here are two photo's that were taken by Alt Studio's, not at the same time of our shoot, but these were the photos' that caught my eye and brought Alt Studio's to my attention. The model is the absolutely gorgeous Rachael of Marry Me Ink.

Thank you so much for reading and please do get in touch with me if you have any questions about the shoot or Alt Studio's, or if you would like to book a studio shoot for yourself.

Take Care,

Rebecca
